Sturdy Memorial Hospital Reviews

What is it like working at Sturdy Memorial Hospital?

January 2019
Certified Phlebotomist:
Very fast paced, which is good! Pay is OK. You WILL wear many hats besides being a Phleb if you work 2nd or 3rd shift! You will rotate as a Phleb doing the ER or floors AND will work in the core lab receiving specimens, spinning, lab tech duties, and doing lots of checks (clerical work) throughout your week... Versus 1st shift where it’s all Phleb- you would rotate in the outpatient lab, ER, and floors throughout your week. Management is nice. Training is not the best however. Everyone who is a designated “trainer” says “I’ll show you later” way too much, which is frustrating. You feel confused at times and have to figure a lot out on your own. If you’re hired to work more than 20 hours then you’re eligible for health and dental benefits which are partially paid for by the hospital. The hiring process can be quite lengthy- lots of paperwork, having blood work and a physical by them, and a hair drug screen that gets sent out of state. It takes between 2-3 weeks for HR to process everything from you signing your offer letter, to your actual first day on the job. Also, software (EMR) is so outdated- MediTech. Everyone talks about each other a lot too behind each other’s backs. Nothing you can do about that unfortunately. Overall, I give it an average rating due to some of the cons mentioned above.
