Head bookeepers are needed in every industry in order to manage the accounting duties of a company. Some companies will prefer bookkeepers that have experience in the specific field, such as real estate or construction. The head bookkeeper will carry out general accounting duties, such as accounts payable and accounts receivable. The head bookkeeper is also usually in charge of payroll. Another area of focus may be taxes. The bookkeeper will have to gather all information needed for taxes and then file the taxes in a complete and correct manner. The bookkeeper may have to carry out internal audits in order to make sure that the company is adhering to company financial guidelines and also to tax reporting laws and regulations. This is especially important when discrepancies are noted, so that problems can be detected before much damage occurs.
The head bookkeeper may be expected to have advanced computer skills in order to be able to operate Quickbooks, Microsoft Office, and automated systems in order to make the job more efficient. Bookkeeping requires a large amount of multitasking, so it is important to be an individual who is detail-oriented and who can adhere to time constraints. This may also be a management position, so many years of experience in the field along with leadership experience may need to be demonstrated.
