Q: What is it like working as a Chief Financial Officer (CFO)?

November 2014
"Maximize The Shareholders Equity."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
Pros: The financial control panel that put the company ahead of its potential challenges.
Cons: Continuous conflict with the CEO.
November 2014
"Take your time."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
Being a cfo is huge responsibility. Do not rush to get to the top. Make mistakes while you manage small budgets. Making mistakes on a big scale will get you fired. They dont call it experience for nothing.
December 2014
"Work flexibility, work challenges."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
Pros: It's challenging and keeps me motivated, and the hours are flexible.
Cons: Reporting deadlines are hectic and requires working long hours.
January 2015
"Day to day fire fighting and adhocism prevails. No planning."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
Focus and Direction are the key words. Also strategy, planning and other macro level aspects should be part of the profile.
January 2015
"Management, Stress Level."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
Pros: The challenge everyday brings being a listed company and making things work and fall in place to grow the company and shareholder wealth.
Cons: No one except one other chartered employee understands the responsibility and what needs to be done when your company is listed on the JSE. Their lack of knowledge in general accounting principles, financial principles and taxation is frustrating. They dont understand the impact of their job on mine often resulting in me taking over to make things work.
February 2015
"To have confidence in myself."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
No obstacle is impossible to overcome. We learn as we go.
March 2015
"Cfo."
Chief Financial Officer (CFO):
Pick the right company and hire the best people.
