Environmental consultants largely work in a wide range of industries, from the private sector to corporate or government contracts. Their job duties vary largely depending on the industry in which they work. Largely, though, they they work to assess the environmental impact of a given company or process, and will often work in locations where employees are dealing with dangerous materials on a daily basis. Environmental consultants may evaluate the raw products and materials being used and determine if they are safe for individuals of the company to handle; this may include materials such as lead-based paint, corrosive chemicals and asbestos.
