An environmental specialist is in charge of enforcing and regulating the containment and disposal of hazardous materials.They help ensure that federal, state, and local regulations are followed, as well as perform environmental studies to determine the effects of pollution on the local environment. If a violation occurs, the environmental specialist must perform follow-up interviews and studies to ensure that the offending party corrects the situation and assess the effects on the environment. The environmental specialist must pay attention to detail and be well organized, as they are in charge of keeping inspection logs and submitting summaries of their inspection logs; these skills are also important for keeping accurate inventory records for hazardous materials and chemicals.

Fairmont is a city in Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 18,704 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marion County. Oral history indicates that in 1808, Boaz Fleming made his annual trek to Clarksburg to pay his brother's Harrison County taxes. While in Clarksburg, he attended a social gathering that included Dolly Madison, his cousin. He complained to her about having to travel over a hundred miles each year from his home to pay his Monongalia County taxes and his brother's Harrison County taxes. Dolly Madison supposedly suggested that he create his own county to save him all that travel. Six years later, Boaz Fleming circulated a petition to do precisely that, naming the proposed county Madison County, in her and her husband's, President James Madison, honor.
