In some cases, financial service directors are responsible for developing and implementing plans for cash flow within a business, either because plans did not previously exist or current plans must be adjusted to meet financial goals. Typically, these directors work closely with managers and other staff in all budget-related divisions of their companies; they may supervise or work side-by-side with managers in payroll, credit, buying/purchasing, and inventory. In cases where a company's tax situation is complex, due either to debts or other circumstances, these directors may work with tax accountants or tax lawyers on a regular basis.
Most financial service director positions are office-based with a great deal of emphasis on the handling of data and information, which must be organized in ways that make sense and maximize efficiency and cost-effectiveness within all areas of supervision. Although all companies need some type of financial services direction, demand for this position is highest among large corporations and those with complex, multi-tier financial situations. Prior work experience is extremely desirable and has a significant influence on pay-scales. Most financial service director positions recommend or require education and/or prior experience in sales, accounting, employee supervision, computer software, and finance.
