Legal nurse consultants must be familiar with case analysis and medical chronology. The job is performed mostly indoors, but can involve a small amount of travel. Those in this position provide support to litigation teams which examine medical cases and often look into case files to examine medical records, disability records, employment, x-rays, and other information to help the team reach a conclusion. They will need to prepare summaries of both analyzed records and medical chronologies, and also research medical literature and prepare questions and inquiries to help analyze the case.
Legal nurse consultants may occasionally be asked to recommend other medical professionals and/or decide for legal reasons if conditions are pre-existing.
