Job Description for Production Machinist
Production machinists use machinery to create things such as tools and automobile parts. Some parts produced are made to order, so reading blueprints and shop drawings is an essential part of the position. Production machinists are generally assigned to one or more machines and expected to meet a quota production. Production Machinist Tasks
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments.
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
- Operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining.
- Measure, examine, and test completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
- Detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust machine controls as necessary.
