Research interns may work with management and/or stakeholders to identify research subjects and plan the efforts, and research is done using various media and by obtaining original data. It may be necessary to reach out and correspond with outside parties to gain more insight, and the gathered materials should be organized and made into reports. Data may need to be analyzed to come to conclusions and breakthroughs, and it may be necessary to synthesize large amounts of data at once. However, the work also requires plenty of teamwork and interacting with outside parties, so strong communication skills are essential in this position.
Research interns must maintain basic knowledge of the subject matter being researched, and much of the work is done in an office environment while some work is done in the field, which may involve traveling or working in uncomfortable areas.
