Working with the marketing department and other engineers may be necessary in order to create an ideal product through collaboration. Therefore, strong teamwork skills will be needed, though the ability to carry out independent tasks is also important. Coming up with new packaging requires doing research into current market trends, as well as what customers want. The packaging engineer may also be given a budget, so it will be important to come up with the most cost effective way of packaging. Some aesthetic skills will be necessary, as coming up with packaging often requires a lot of creativity. Mathematical and reasoning skills will be needed in order to create packaging of proper dimensions. When the packaging prototypes are created, the packaging engineer must carry out rigorous testing in order to create the ideal product. The engineer may have to monitor production and distribution progress until the product reaches the customers’ hands. Even then, the packaging engineer may seek feedback directly from consumers in order to further improve the packaging. The packaging engineer may also be in charge of helping to develop the automated systems to produce the packages in an efficient manner.
