Job Description for Senior Research Analyst

A senior technical analyst is a versatile technical problem solver that can be found in many different industries. The core responsibilities of a senior technical analyst are to collect, analyze, and present data, and then make a recommendation based upon that data.

After being given an issue to research by senior management, the senior technical analyst consults technical journals and other relevant literature literature to gather information and presentation material. To collect the necessary data in a service industry, the technical analyst must prepare and conduct surveys. In more product-oriented business, the analyst must sample products to take measurements of applicable metrics. After collecting the data, the analyst must perform an in-depth statistical analysis and then prepare to present this material in an easily digestible format. Ultimately, the technical analyst makes a presentation to a client or senior management and makes a recommendation on a course of action.

Senior technical analysts work in a wide array of fields, including computer software, government, legal compliance, and market analysis. These technical analysts usually work in an office environment and may be required to travel for both data collection and to make reports to clients.
