Some senior network engineers are responsible for implementing security systems for networks so that data is not compromised. The work is mostly done in an office, and it may occasionally be necessary to visit various branches of the office to install hardware for a network or help other employees with issues they may have. Although some of the work is sedentary, some walking, bending, lifting, and squatting, and other physical requirements may be necessary.
Advanced computer skills are important in this position, and knowledge of server software and hardware are essential. Budget management skills are also important, as the network engineer may have to work within a budget. A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field may be required for this position, though some employers accept an associate’s degree. Because this is an advanced position, senior network engineers may be expected to lead teams of lower-level network engineers. (Copyright 2019 PayScale.com)
