They initiate projects and develop specs, making sure that prototypes match specs and meet requirements throughout the development process. Technical design managers must be able manage designers to make sure that product development proceeds as efficiently and effectively as possible. These individuals must be able to solve technical errors, manage software problems, and help resolve any issues that arise. They must evaluate the designs produced by the teams or individuals they manage, assessing whether they meets quality standards and matches company expectations. Technical design managers must set goals and deadlines, following up to ensure they are met by all team members.
Technical design manager positions generally require a bachelor's degree in a related field, as well as at least three years' related experience.
