As a trader of real time power, the utmost focus is on ensuring that purchases and sales of energy are done in a manner that benefits their employer and follows risk management protocol. As might be expected, it is vital for the trader to know energy markets inside and out and be strongly familiar with the rules, laws, regulations, and other details of making energy trades, as such trades not only affect their employer’s actual energy needs, but also serve as investments. This means the trader of real time power must stay on top of energy markets and their functions and fluctuations in a constant sense, and be able to analyze changes as they occur, in order to best manage their employer’s energy reserves. Strong decision making skills, analytics, mathematics, and communication skills are essential in this position, as is the ability to take calculated risks at a moment’s notice.
