Job Description for Accountant

An accountant will spend most of the time within an office setting. Standard working hours are first shift Monday-Friday. In order to meet the requirements of becoming an accountant, one must posses certain qualities. A sense of organization is strongly needed, as there are many records within the company that the accountant must keep track of. Records will include but may not be limited to: liabilities, assets, tax liabilities, profit and loss, and any of the organization's other financial activities. The accountant will also be responsible for preparing the financial reports by reviewing and analyzing the financial data received from the company. Management will also require the accountant to generate and interpret financial records. In addition to preparing reports and maintaining records, the accountant will also be in charge of maintaining the general ledger. Holding a Bachelor's or Master's degree in accounting is typically required for this position. The majority of this job revolves around the use of numbers and computations, and much of the work will be done on a computer. The accountant will often times have to talk to upper management, and it will be necessary to not only have written, but verbal communication skills as well. This position can be mentally stressful at times, but an accountant must be willing to pay attention to detail each and every day. The accountant will be trusted with the financial data of the company and will be required to examine the data to make sure that all financial records are accurate.

  • Maintain records of assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liability, or other financial activities within an organization.
  • Maintain general ledger as needed.
  • Analyze financial data in order to prepare financial reports.
  • Generate and interpret financial records and statements for management.
