Negotiating Higher Pay
Executive Assistant
Senior Executive Assistant - (City withheld for privacy), Ontario, Canada
I've negotiated for a different title and higher salary and GOT IT! What I was finding is that my company was using "Administrative Assistants" for anyone who was in administration. Based on the level of the executive I worked for and the type of duties I did, I created a profile for similar positions in the area that had better titles. I took it farther and identified the appropriate salary range they needed to compensate me with in order to keep me there. They were receptive to my research and suggestions, and I got the title changed to Executive Assistant for all the Admins working with Execs - and, for myself, I got the increase in salary I was looking for. Be thorough and industry-applicable in your research to get the results you want.

Project Manager, Marketing - (City withheld for privacy), Ontario, Canada
Once, I joined in a industry conference with my boss. One night, at a very important function, I happened to be seated beside a industry leader. We talked a lot and at the end of the event, befoe he left, he said to me, I would like you to work for me. His voice was very loud and many people could hear it. Altough my boss was not there at that moment, but I got a surpriseing raise after that meeting.

Getting a wage equivalent to experience.
Respiratory Therapist - (City withheld for privacy), British Columbia, Canada
I have been with the company for almost 9 years. New employees with half as many years experience are being hired at higher wages than current employees. There is a current shortage in my occupation. How can I get the employer to pay fair wages before employees leave to better paying union jobs at hospitals and health authorities?

Just be yourself!!!
Sr. Unix System Administrator - (City withheld for privacy), Québec, Canada
If you start playing games and come up with strategic lies or misinformation, you will get burned. IT is a small world. All you gotta do to get a raise is to simply BE YOURSELF and then some! Talk about all the good things you did, the praises you received. Be professional, polite and articulate. Write your achievements down so that when the time comes, you're armed with actual facts rather than trying to remember your 'story'.
