Job Description for Senior Pastor

Senior pastors have many different priorities that they must fulfill. They have several years of experience and observations of other senior pastors. First and foremost, the number one priority for any senior pastor is to invest large amounts of time seeking God's vision, guidance, and blessing for the church. They have to devote themselves to encouraging the church and being a positive thinker. They are the principal communicators of the Word of God and must have impeccable leadership skills. Senior pastors serve as the spiritual leader of the church and foster leadership within the congregation. They also develop areas for strategic growth to strengthen key ministry areas and provide a strong church pastoral presence through teaching, pastoral guidance, and ministerial duties. Senior pastors build relationships within the church and the general community. They also have the responsibility of training new and existing leaders. Senior pastors teach them leadership and provide them with opportunities to practice what they are learning. Senior pastors are also responsible for the church's finances. It is also important for them to create and atmosphere of generous and worshipful giving. The senior pastor sets the tone for the generosity and worship within the church. Senior pastors cultivate relationships with people who are spiritually unresolved. Senior pastors should have a master's degree in religious studies, ministry, divinity, or theology. Experience is always required in order to obtain a senior pastor position. They should be good leaders, good decision makers, and strong orators. Senior pastors work to make their ministry be a more productive place.

  • Provide a strong Church pastoral presence through teaching, pastoral guidance, and ministerial duties.
  • Develop areas for strategic growth and to strengthen key ministry areas.
  • Serve as the spiritual leader of the Church and foster leadership within the congregation.
  • Build relationships within the Church and the general community.
