Job Description for Support Analyst, Information Technology (IT)

A support information technology (IT) analyst is responsible for much of the day-to-day technical support and development in a business or corporate setting. These analysts respond to problems and complaints from other departments regarding the quality of their technological systems (such as computers and phones). In addition to solving current problems, support IT analysts develop strategies for improving technologies to avoid problems in the future or to improve technology-related performance. A typical day for a support IT analyst includes visiting sites of concern within the company and resolving any technological problems, as well as developing strategies to prevent future problems.
Support IT analysts must possess strong analytical skills to identify and solve problems quickly and efficiently, as well as a thorough understanding of the technology implemented by a company. They must also know how that technology can be modified, enhanced, or used in a different way to better benefit the organization. Depending on the company and position, a support IT analyst may be required to have prior experience in the IT industry in a professional setting. In addition, a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or another computer-related field is essential.
