Job Description for Retail Store Assistant

A retail store assistant works in a retail environment, such as a department store or a smaller retail store. He or she provides customer service. The assistant will greet customers when they enter the store and will ask the customers what kind of assistance can be provided. The assistant may be able to offer recommendations based on the customer’s needs. Some stores will offer commission, so it is important to be able to upsell, while providing friendly customer service that does not overly pressure the customer. It may also be required to meet minimum sales goals in a certain period.
