A love of numbers and finances is essential for any consumer lending branch manager. Those in this position deal with personal and small business loans on a daily basis and are responsible for assessing the needs and assets of each customer, as well as filing the appropriate paperwork and documentations. As branch managers, they are also responsible for overseeing staff performance, generating reports for national and regional banking centers, and ensuring that all lending is carried out in accordance with government regulations.Read More...
A consumer lending branch manager works inside, generally within a single office, although a significant portion of time will be dedicated to meetings with customers and other branch managers. A typical work-day runs from 9 AM to 6 PM with the possibility of weekend work depending on the bank.
Other aspects of the job include organizing schedules, addressing under-performance, and hiring and firing employees on teams of (on average) 15 - 20 people. This requires strong social skills and the ability to create a cohesive vision based on the larger goals of the organization. Those in this position are also expected to create performance reports, financial updates, and yearly forecasts for their regional directors.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business Administration or Finance is generally required for this position, though some consumer lending branch managers are promoted internally for qualifications gained within the organization. Employers often prefer applicants with a minimum of two years in the financial sector and at least one year of managerial experience in a fast-paced, goal-oriented environment, preferably a bank.
