In order to qualify for a job as a transit and intercity bus driver, applicants must pass a special driving test to demonstrate that they possess the necessary skills to safely operate a transit bus, which is typically significantly larger and longer than other vehicles. In addition to being capable of driving a multi-passenger bus, drivers also must be calm, even-tempered, alert, and able to juggle multiple mental tasks at the same time without becoming flustered or emotionally agitated; this ensures that drivers will be able to operate the bus, handle the entering and exiting of many passengers, and cope with the demands of traffic and infrastructure issues.
