Business support managers are responsible for day-to-day oversight of business operations. They must have in-depth knowledge of the entire business and the duties of all employees. In addition, the business support manager must oversee employee performance and take corrective measures as necessary. This manager is often the first contact for outside vendors and is responsible for creating and maintaining vendor contacts and contracts. Business support managers must possess many skills, including excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Business support managers must be leaders in the workplace and provide excellent customer service. Additionally, they must be able to analyze potential and actual problems and develop solutions. Business support managers must be able to function at a high level independently, yet also work well with others. Proficiency with basic computer programs is needed as well.
A bachelor's degree in business management or a similar field is the general desired entry point for employment as a business support manager. Possession of a master of business administration (MBA) may be highly preferred. In addition, employers also look for certifications and experience in a related field.
