Front End Developer / Engineer Reviews

Q: What is it like working as a Front End Developer / Engineer?

Front End Developer / Engineer in Peterborough:
"Too much for too little, no room for growth."
Pros: I like that I get exposed to many different areas of web development, marketing, graphic design, SEO, email marketing, branding etc.
Cons: Under-compensated given profession averages, absolutely no room for growth or promotion, my expertise and skills were spread very thinly across what seemed like 100 different areas which kept me from excelling in any one area. All this going on while the management fights and bickers over my shoulder every day. Management is also poor at constructive criticism, quoting large projects, and involving employee in the job. Corporate culture (if there is any) is only applicable to those aged 35+.

Front End Developer / Engineer in Toronto:
"Love my current job but I think I'm underpaid."
Pros: Lots of interesting projects and use of amazing technology.
Cons: The fact that I think that my salary is below the market value for javascript web developrs.

Front End Developer / Engineer in Toronto:
"Better than anything else I've done."
Pros: I like the flexibility in my day to work on different projects at different times. I also like being able to work while travelling abroad and getting paid at the same time. I like technology so this field, in this industry is a generally good fit for me.
Cons: My boss can change his mind about what he wants on a total whim. We work long hours when projects demand it and it leads to a pretty quick burnout for me. I would prefer to work on a single product and see it grow and expand into something really cool rather than churn out marketing sites for company, after company.
