Geologist Reviews

Q: What is it like working as a Geologist?

Geologist in Sault Ste Marie:
"Lots of time spent away from home."
Pros: Looking at rocks.
Cons: Poor companies and hours.

Geologist in Newfoundland:
"Mine Geology: Whatever Can't be Grown or Caught Must be Mined."
Pros: -Work with a variety of professionals. -Excellent profession for life long learning. -Exploring and discovering minerals and mining them can be very exciting and fast paced. -Where you work changes everyday from offices, underground, open pit mining environments, to the middle of nowhere requiring helicopters, ski-doos and ATV's to commute to work.
Cons: -Frequent decision making can make the job stressful. -This industry requires persistence, and a high tolerance for project failure. Most mineral plays never make it into production, of no fault of the explorer. The job is entirely subject to market conditions, government regulations. Furthermore minerals are a finite resource often located in a variety of area generating projects that don't quite make the cut, or are to expensive to explore. -Often requires relocation or long commutes which makes this job difficult for families and friends.
