Mechanical Engineer Reviews

Q: What is it like working as a Mechanical Engineer?

Mechanical Engineer in Calgary:
"Friendly people."
Pros: People are pretty nice. Helpful and all.
Cons: Traffic. Needy people. Annoying office mates who brag about their teams.

Mechanical Engineer in Montréal:
"Importance given to employees."
Almost aim high, never undersell yourself. At the job interview, be yourself & honest. Once you get the position, you will soon realize how long you see yourself within the company and/or position. Do not make the mistake of doing the same job for too long (2-3yrs max). If you are doing the same thing day in day out for months on end, you absolutely need to look at different higher positions withing the co & elsewhere. Do not get comfortable because the job is easy... Challenge yourself early in career in order to gauge yourself as a worker, an engineer and see your worth in the engineering world as well as personal growth. I am quite surprised how 5 years later the person I became..., did not expect to change this way. The working environment changes you... Which is why it is important that you find a job that you truly enjoy and that pays at least the avg salary suggested on this website (which is why I am writing) early in your career. Money is important for life & ambition.

Mechanical Engineer in London:
"Jack Of All Trades."
Pros: Very interesting work with good variety of scope and difficulty.
Cons: Can be stressful at times and if you don't handle stress well it may be bad.

Mechanical Engineer in Montréal:
"Innnovative."
Pros: Great learning experience. Complete and very innovative projects.
Cons: Can sometimes be slow when I've completed my work and waiting on others.

Mechanical Engineer in Peterborough:
"Personal Satisfaction vs. Pay."
If you enjoy problem solving and creativity this can be a fun and challenging career. You can make what you want out of your career. In R&D I have been able to lead and direct project with significant business impact and personal satisfaction. However, solid designs are often overlooked by business leaders as the details are not well understood. Even though customers keep coming back for the design quality, the closer you are to the money (sales and management) the more you will make.

Mechanical Engineer in Montréal:
Pros: Flexible working time.
Cons: Low salary.

Mechanical Engineer in Saskatoon:
"Starting pay would be so low."
