Job Description for Junior Mechanical Engineer

A junior mechanical engineer holds an entry-level position on the path to becoming a senior mechanical engineer. Generally, a junior mechanical engineer works under the supervision of a senior mechanical engineer and reports to the company's director of engineering. In most environments, junior mechanical engineers are responsible for creating detailed designs, drawings, and technical documentation of mechanical components of a project. Although they work under the supervision of a senior colleague, junior mechanical engineers work alongside junior and senior mechanical engineers to complete projects. However, in some situations, junior level mechanical engineers work independently to complete work assignments.
