Job Description for Lead Hand
A lead hand is responsible for overseeing a group of workers assigned to them, ensuring all tasks are completed in a safe and timely manner. They are in charge of coordinating work across multiple areas and ensuring that safety protocols are followed at all times. The lead hand assists workers with issues and concerns and may be required to mentor apprentices within their trade. Most lead hands are required to identify what tools and employees are required for specific jobs and tasks. In the event that a tool is not available, the lead hand must notify their supervisor and submit any requests and supporting documentation. The lead hand answers directly to their overseeing supervisor and plays an integral part in decision making and disciplinary actions. They are required to be flexible with their schedule and must be open to travel. Each job site has a different environment, and a lead hand must be comfortable working in varying environments.
