They handle government communication efforts, create detailed reports based on current government positions, and coordinate and schedule government events and activities. They use a personal computer to keep accurate records of interactions with individuals, corporations, and other government officials. These managers work with other managers, sharing crucial government affairs information. They act as a liaison between individuals and government officials, as well as oversee the development and recommendation of policies changes. They participate in business meetings to contribute ideas, prepare public testimony, and present on behalf of their organization. They develop strong business relationships with external partners, as well as cultivate positive relationships between companies and governments at local, state, and federal levels. Additionally, these managers translate complex issues and systems into clear, concise, and engaging documents and presentations. They need to follow strict privacy procedures to avoid disclosing sensitive information to the public.
A bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, management, marketing, or a related field is required for this job. Previous experience in a similar position is needed as well. Managers of government affairs must be motivated, result-oriented individuals that pay close attention to detail.
