Job Description for Shipper

The basic duties of a shipper include filling customer orders in an efficient and effective manner, ensuring the quality of these orders meets company standards. Tools commonly used on the job include trays, dollies, pallets, trailers, forklifts, scissor lifts, and pallet jacks; all of these tools must be used proficiently and in accordance with safety standards set by government regulations and company rules. Shippers' work is mostly done inside, with the exception of loading docks and working in other outdoor delivery areas. Most work is done with a team of other shippers, with a supervisor present in the work area. This position is often physically demanding, but specific lifting requirements vary from job to job. The ability to operate small electronics such as hand scanners may be necessary, as well as larger organizational systems for tracking inventory and shipping systems. High standards for attendance, work ethic, and performance are regularly monitored. Shippers are common positions in companies with warehouses, including manufacturing companies.
