Job Description for Shipping and Receiving Clerk
Shipping and receiving clerks work in a variety of industries. They are primarily concerned with the receipt and shipment of products and supplies, as well as maintaining company inventories. These clerks work in a fast-paced environment, managing the logistics of sending and receiving shipments; this includes the use of computer-based systems and interfaces, as well as some manual labor. In addition to maintaining inventories, this also includes the completion of a high volume of paperwork and documentation. Shipping and receiving clerks must also stay informed of relevant company policies and needs. Shipping and receiving clerks must also be self-motivated and able to manage multiple competing priorities that may change quickly. Additionally, they should be familiar with the use of shipping services online, over the phone, and in person; accordingly, they must have excellent oral and written communication skills. They should be able to work independently, as well as cooperatively with both team members and representatives from other companies. Excellent typing skills and a basic understanding of common computer programs are necessary as well.
