The aim of a vocational English teacher/tutor is to improve students’ English communication skills to be used in a business setting. They work at academic institutions and for companies aiming to improve the English skills of their employees, and they are also present in vocational schools to ensure that students have the necessary English skills to succeed in their craft. These teachers/tutors focus on grammar, speaking, listening, and writing skills for adult learners and often create the course syllabus to be presented to the students so they understand their goals.
Those in this position often create the curriculum and lesson plans they teach, and administer and grade homework, tests, and other assignments. Feedback and grades should be provided to students to determine progress and what may need improvement, and some students may benefit from extra one-on-one help. They must also evaluate their teaching methods to ensure that they are effective and students are benefiting from the mode of teaching.
