Beauty advisors typically work with individual customers to determine their beauty goals and needs. Customers may not always come to the counter, so it may be necessary to offer services to those who are passing by. Various types of makeup may be sampled by customers to determine what suits them best, and advisors may also assist in these matters.
They may work with managers to determine new trends, opportunities, and stock needs, and are also responsible for tracking new receipts and returning damaged items to vendors. The beauty area must be tidied, cleaned, and arranged in an attractive manner, as well. Because the job involves directly working with clients, strong customer service and communication skills are necessary, and they may not only apply makeup but also teach customers how to apply makeup at home.
A flexible schedule is necessary for this position, including nights, weekends, and holidays based on the store’s needs. A strong customer base should be created and kept informed about new merchandise and upcoming events, and marketing skills are also beneficial for participating in special sales events. They must always maintain up-to-date knowledge of what the company offers and new products that are available, and a high school diploma is often a minimum requirement for this position.
