Depending on the casino, the cage cashier may also handle cash advances or work as the point person on that aspect. This can involve securing credit card information and documentation from the guest. Some casinos even cash checks, and the cage cashier will put the check through the casino's authorization process for the player. Occasionally, guests may need to declare winnings to the IRS before they are awarded, and the cage cashier is typically the point of contact for that as well.
The education requirements for a cage cashier are not steep, but many casinos will issue tests to prospective candidates and put them through extensive training and a credit check. Cage cashiers are also expected to be very good communicators and possess outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills.
