Dollar General Corporation Reviews

Q: What is it like working as a Cashier at Dollar General Corporation?

Cashier in Valdosta:
"Plesant but aggravating with added stress."
Pros: Customers.
Cons: To much expectation with little time.

Cashier in Lincolnton:
"Its like a middle school."
Pros: You have a customer relationship with most of the people that come in because it's such a small town and the store is basically locally managed.
Cons: Certain managers make extremely rude comments not only about the customers, but the employees as well. A LOT of drama. You're expected to do the work of four people while running the register, and you only see the managers when you call them to the front for assistance. I walked in as a customer yesterday and the manager made a smart comment about not being able to throw totes, yet I've WORKED there for 5 days, the store is trashed, you can't find anything, and the handheld they give you to use don't work. I'm not sure they do their safety walks either. They're very lazy and unprofessional when it comes to managing a store that could thrive in such a small town.

Cashier in Mobile:
"Undercompensated."
Pros: The customers, the work & the majority of my coworkers.
Cons: The boss, the hours I work decrease in pay, my hours drop when new coworkers are hired & etc.

Cashier in Columbus:
"Perks."
Pros: Close to home. Friendly staff.
Cons: Working weekends.

Cashier in Gardner:
"The coworkers."
Pros: I really like my boss and my coworkers. The customers are the best and I love taking the time to listen to them.I like how family oriented it feels to come to work. I don't mind doing whatever my boss asks me to do because I would love to grow with this company.
Cons: The only bad thing about the store where I work is when the doors open a blast of cold air comes through. The customers make comments all the time about how we can work in those conditions and I tell them, because we need to be here for you. I tell them that I feel more for them because a customer should not be cold when checking out of the store.
