Job Description for Crew Leader
A crew leader supervises a section or crew for his or her organization. They are the first line of management for crew members, and they are responsible for handling disciplinary manners (which may include escalating issues to higher-level management). The crew leader is often the most technically experienced member of the crew. By putting the crew leader in charge of training and oversight, lower-level workers can complete tasks that would otherwise be assigned to higher skilled members of the organization; those higher skilled members can subsequently focus on more complex tasks that ordinary workers may not be qualified to complete.Read More...
As head of their crew, crew leaders are responsible for ensuring that team members have the technical skills and training necessary to complete their assignments. This also helps to create a more skilled workforce that may gradually be assigned more complex tasks. Additionally, crew leaders ensure that each individual's work is completed correctly and in a timely manner. They are also responsible for completing any tasks that are beyond the skill of their individuals.
Generally, employers look for crew leaders that have experience in the organization's (or crew's) field; previous leadership experience is preferred.
The crew leader should be energetic, a hard worker, and an effective communicator, which helps ensure that all individuals know their assign tasks and all concerns and requests are answered. The crew leader should also posses the necessary leadership skills to motivate the crew, as well as maintain a high level of discipline and respect. (Copyright 2018 PayScale.com)
