Job Description for Diesel Shop Foreman / Mechanic

A diesel shop foreman/mechanic performs maintenance and supervises others' work on a variety of diesel engines. There are many different types of diesel engines that need maintenance and repairs, so mechanics may work on trucks, buses, construction vehicles, boats, and even locomotives. The work space for a diesel shop foreman/mechanic may be limited to an indoor garage, or it may include working on the road with some light traveling. When working at the garage, most of the foreman/mechanic's time is spent working with a team of mechanics, supervisors, and service managers. However, this individual must also build relationships with customers to ensure repeat business for the company. Additionally, in their capacity as a foreman, this individual must supervise the work of others, providing discipline, instruction, and advice as needed.
