Although a director of engineering mainly supervises projects, they often conduct hands-on work for projects as well. They typically work with their engineering staff and have minimal interaction with customers and clients, although there are exceptions. A director of engineering typically works in an office setting, although they may travel to project sites. Their day typically includes full-time work during business hours, although the director may have to work longer hours under project deadlines.
