Periodic reports must be prepared to analyze the success of various programs and strategies for improvement. Prior to being hired, foundation relations managers are often required to demonstrate past success in obtaining funding, and they may also be responsible for allocating and disbursing funds within the organization. Budget management is an important part of this position, and at least a few years of prior experience in foundation fundraising are usually necessary.
Some employers require foundation relations managers to bring pre-existing relationships from other foundations and create innovative solicitation techniques, and there may be certain goals to be achieved within certain time-periods, so the ability to adhere to deadlines is essential in this position. They often manage several projects at once, as well, so multitasking skills are also beneficial.
