Job Description for Inventory Specialist

Inventory specialists are normally in charge of ordering, receiving and counting all types of products for their organization. They are also responsible for ensuring that inventory records are accurate at all times, which they do through daily or weekly counts of all products. Inventory specialists work with products being shipped to customers and properly log all receipts to ensure accurate inventory counts. In some cases, they may be in charge of preparing orders and related documents to purchase additional items or stock. This is generally a full-time position performed in a warehouse setting. Heavy lifting, as well as constant movement throughout the warehouse, is generally required.

The minimum educational requirement for inventory specialist positions generally includes a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, these professionals typically must have a minimum of three years of experience in the field. Inventory specialists must also possess proficiency with basic computer programs, be able to quickly perform basic math (such as in preparing counts), be strong team players, and have excellent communication skills. They also must be able to multitask and keep up in a fast-paced work environment. Inventory specialists should work well in a team setting, as well as on their own with minimal supervision.
