Leasing agents are responsible for assisting property managers in the leasing of apartments and other rental properties. They are in charge of marketing openings to potential clients on behalf of the property management, serving as the point of contact for clients searching for rentals, meeting with clients face to face, and providing site tours as requested. They also work with various marketing outlets such as newspapers and television stations to get advertisements out in a timely manner. The work environment for a leasing agent consists of a combination of office time, driving with clients, and touring properties. Weekend and evening availability is also required, as clients may call and request tours outside of regular business hours, and tour routes must be reviewed in advance to discover and resolve any potential issues prior to showings.
A bachelor’s degree is usually preferred for a leasing agent, although only a high school diploma or equivalent is required.
