They often work closely with design and manufacturing engineers on projects and most often report to the senior manager of plant operations, as well as technical services supervisors. Strong support skills are essential in this position, as manufacturing technicians must monitor and assist technicians and general workers in the manufacturing department, particularly in troubleshooting potential equipment failures, damages, and issues with production batches.
Applicants for manufacturing technician positions are generally expected to have either an associate's degree, a relevant technical degree, or an equivalent amount of work experience in manufacturing. The ability to interpret schematics and guidelines is also essential, as well as basic math skills. Manufacturing technicians may need to be able lift and hold mechanical assemblies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds, as well as comfortably work while standing for long periods of time.
