Morning weather anchors work for television stations and present the weather to viewing audiences in the morning hours. These anchors have an abundance of duties which must be fulfilled, most of which fall under preparation for actually presenting the news. Weather anchors must perform research to gather and organize presentable information. They must be able to comprehend weather data, which sometimes involves numerical and graphic information, and some may occasionally conduct interviews, which are either live or pre-recorded, regarding weather conditions. Some positions require a bachelor’s degree or higher in meteorology, and a background or some experience in broadcast journalism and/or communications is highly beneficial. It is also important to have strong organization and public speaking skills in order to present information in an easily understandable manner that grips the audience’s attention.
Strong computer skills are often necessary, and it is sometimes required to communicate with the audience not only through the television, but also social media. Morning weather anchors may occasionally experience high pressure, as information is time-sensitive and there are deadlines to be met.
