Q: What is it like working as an Office Administrator?

Office Administrator:
Pros: Bookkeeping, dealing with clients, organizing and completing work.
Cons: Owner is rarely physically present, primary communication via email. Often ignores emails which is frustrating and interferes with work and customer service.

Office Administrator:
Pros: With the management being based in Canada, it's very much an independent role. I often have to make quick decisions for which I have never been formally trained. I have had to learn a lot of corporate software skills via the phone and email, as well as being responsible for sending money to customers and dealing with complaints.
Cons: I work in a windowless office under the ground, in an American Apparel store in Shoreditch. I regularly have to clean the small room myself (it's about 4x4 meters), and my previous colleague was incompetent and lazy, yet favored by my manager and paid more than me. Since his leaving I have now had to take over the whole online department, doing everything from opening the post to taking out the rubbish and everything in between. I have to physically carry large, heavy postbags half a mile up the road each day, because a Royal Mail delivery service was too expensive to set up. This means that sometimes I need to ask for help from the employees of the store. I regularly feel undervalued and overworked. Though I have been here for over a year (I started by just doing the post and have never been officially promoted), I am still on £6.50 p/h. This is not enough to live on and I often work 9-10 hours days just to make my rent. I was also promised a raise which was never given.
