Job Description for Physical Therapy Aide

Physical therapy aides are in charge of providing assistance to physical therapists and their patients. They are responsible for helping with set up and clean up after therapy sessions, as well as interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner. Physical therapy aides may assist with transportation duties and handle administrative responsibilities such as checking patients in, scheduling future visits, and completing insurance authorizations. In all activities, these aides must follow relevant privacy procedures.

  • Perform clerical duties; take inventory, order and stock supplies, answer telephone, take messages and complete forms.
  • Transport patients to and from treatment areas, using wheelchairs or providing standing support.
  • Prepare, clean and maintain work area and disinfect equipment after treatment.
  • Under close supervision of a physical therapist or assistant perform select tasks in preparing the patient and administering treatment therapy.
