Their primary focuses are visualizing and organizing effective file systems, creating extra storage space, eliminating wastage, and educating their clients on techniques to maintain a clean and efficient workplace. If they have the relevant experience and qualifications, professional organizers also assist their clients with organizing their finances, creating realistic budgets, proposing alternative systems for data storage, and establishing effective money management systems to reduce unnecessary spending and increase savings. Once they have formulated a plan with their clients, they may conduct maintenance visits to follow up on their progress. These could be weekly, monthly, or bi-annual visits.
Professional organizers are required to engage in a lot of interaction, especially one-on-one consultations with their clients over the phone, via email, or in person. They usually work during regular hours, though their timetable is not normally routine. They primarily work indoors, though they do often have to travel to visit their clients' offices. Professional organizers are usually self-employed and are members of the National Association of Professional Organizers. Usually, no formal education is required to work as a professional organizer, though training programs do exist in order to provide professional organizers with ideas on organizational techniques and on how to operate a successful business.
