A registered medical assistant, or RMA, is a trained medical assistant who has formally been educated to become a medical assistant. Most commonly, a registered medical assistant will work in a doctor's office. A registered medical assistant is usually responsible for a variety of tasks, such as communicating with insurance companies, answering phone lines, and scheduling patients' appointments. They must be able to accurately enter data into a patient's chart either electronically or physically.
