Salon receptionists are generally responsible for resolving customer concerns, overseeing cash-handling duties, collecting payments from customers, answering phone calls, and scheduling appointments, and they may also have inventory and supply ordering duties. It is also important to maintain a clean environment for customers, and these receptionists are often in charge of this, as well. There may also be display areas for goods for sale which receptionists should ensure is always attractive and presentable.
Many salons can get quite busy and the job often requires carrying out multiple tasks at once, the ability to multitask is very important. Applicants with prior experience as a receptionist and/or cashier may be preferred by some employers. Basic computer skills are necessary in order to carry out scheduling and communication duties, and a minimum of a high school diploma is generally required for the position.
