Job Description for Sr. Chemist

The senior chemist performs analytical testing for their employer using approved methods, procedures, corporate policies, and current industry standards. Senior chemists also review quality assurance documentation, assess data compliance/validity with the quality control department, and ensure all the work is performed and documented accurately and in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.

The senior chemist is expected to work independently and as part of a team to achieve company goals. They must possess knowledge regarding various tests and wet chemistry that pertain to their area of study (such as compendial raw material analysis). They also must possess excellent communication skills, strong mathematical skills, and have a basic understanding of basic computer software (including any programs required to run analyses). Companies typically require senior chemists have five to 10 years' hands-on working experience in a related field. A master's degree in chemistry or a related field is generally required; employers may prefer candidates with a doctoral degree in chemistry or a related field.
