A technical specialist coordinates an organization's technology use. They recognize the company's composition and procedures, assesses its technology and technological processes, and attempts to streamline these processes to make them more effective. For example, the technical specialist may advise executives to create presentations using a particular program or may design new systems of storing data and information. A technical specialist can expect to work with other technical specialists in the company to discuss new ideas and improve processes; they also explain to others within the company how to use technology to increase production and make work more efficient. The technical specialist also must stay up to date with company and industry standards as they relate to technology.

A bachelor’s degree is necessary for technical specialist, and a master’s degree may be desired by some companies. In addition, a technical specialist candidate should have previous experience with project management and risk assessment.
