Job Description for Unit Clerk

Unit clerks are normally responsible for providing clerical services to the nursing department, helping the department stay efficient and effective. They also act as a resource to all departments to help maintain and troubleshoot office equipment, as well as perform data entry, maintain patient charts, transcribe orders, and file documents. Additionally, unit clerks answer telephone calls, as well as deliver messages to patients, doctors, and nurses. Other tasks performed by unit clerks include keeping track of patient appointments, delivering mail and flowers to the patients, recording lab reports, and ordering prescriptions, among others.
